I am filled with blah. Still haven't heard back from the Job. And I know that I should start emailing some of the other companies (and that M's company is definitely going to be looking for people!). But what I thought was a yeast infection is actually a bladder infection and the antibiotics are taking a while to be effective. My lady bits are sore and I'm tired and embarrassed about not going to the drop-in clinic immediately (although the doctor I saw when I ended up going was very nice and didn't seem to think I'd been an idiot at all).

But at least I've got the next two days off.

Plus there's curling on the TV. And later the Canucks are playing and it'll be the first game since the season started that I haven't had to work (although D brought a radio on Friday night and we listened to the game while we were cleaning the popper - so that was good).

But Curling! - I always forget how much I enjoy watching curling until it's on TV. It's fun and there's cool strategy. And I love that all of the people on the top competitive teams look like normal people. It's reassuring to think that there are elite sports where people can compete who haven't been blessed with lucky genetics. High level sports always require hard work and strategy, but there are so many that require more than that. I like watching those sports too - but it's harder to fantasize about myself doing those things.

It's the provincial Scotties women's tournaments this weekend which is in the lead up to the nationals next weekend I think, and I'm definitely going to try to watch those. Curling is one of the reasons I'm glad that I got cable, because I would never watch curling in a bar (except for maybe the Olympics).

Quick informal poll:

When you are reading fic (or, you know, anything) do you prefer verbs in:
a) Past tense.
b) Present tense.
c) Don't care either way as long as it's consistent.

I'm working on my Yuletide and I can't decide which I prefer - half the time the present sounds better and half the time I want to do the past. Obviously I need to pick a tense and stick to it, but I can't decide which is better. ([personal profile] hobbitbabe having seen some of the text, do you have an opinion about what fits better in this particular story?)

In other news I've somehow managed to lightly sprain my wrist. I actually have no idea how, it's just been sore and potentially getting sore-er all week (either that or I was paying attention to it more). I went into the walk-in clinic down the street from me and had the doctor check it out to make sure it wasn't something worse than I thought. And yeah. Apparently it's just a sprain and it will heal even if I continue to do the same stuff that caused it to hurt in the first place (it'll just take longer). He said that I didn't have to wrap it, but I decided to get a wrist brace anyway because it'll remind me to take it easy and give it some support when I'm doing stuff around the house.

Fortunately I don't have any more Christmas knitting to do, so I'm going to take a break from that, but I'll still be typing and doing things at work that strain my wrist a bit. Damn wrists. Also, what the hell am I going to do when I start getting twitchy fingers?

And my roommate left to visit parents just a few minutes ago. So now I've got the place to myself, and I will celebrate by going to work. ;)

Somehow I managed to sleep in until about noon today despite waking up enough to turn off my alarm at 08:30. (No, I don't have to get up at any specific time these days - unemployed - but I've been trying to have reasonable awake hours instead of sleeping all day and not being able to get to sleep at night.)

Then I made myself a to do list and I actually managed to do most of the things on it!

Including calling a recruiting agency that places people in office jobs! Admittedly I had to leave a message on the person's voice mail, which is hopefully not as awkward as I fear. But I actually called them! I hate phones! This is an accomplishment!

I also tried to edit my CV to make all of the officey-type things I've done more obvious. None of my jobs have been office jobs, strictly speaking. But I've done a lot of data entry and forms and shit as well as filing, emailing people, and I'm not sure what taking notes in class is if not dictation. Also when I worked front desk I was responsible for all incoming calls to the university after the receptionist went home (there is no need to mention that the university was only 1000 students - or that I didn't get more than one or two desk shifts a week).

I also went grocery shopping (it never ends). And picked up some bus tickets. Did the dishes and I just started my laundry.

Tonight I'm going to see Seven Psychopaths with A and K and that should be fun. I'm going to try to not get any over-priced concessions.

My puck bruise is looking pretty damn impressive. It's sort of yellowy-greeny red in the middle and purpley-dark blue around the edges and I'm pretty sure it's actually bigger than a puck at this point which is pretty cool. Doesn't hurt as much as it used to either - which is good.

Now I think I'm going to read some fic to make me feel better.

And good news! I thought my kindle had died yesterday because it wouldn't respond to anything, including trying to restart it. But it turned out that it just needed to sit and think about what it'd done for a while. Because I restarted it today and it seems fine now. It even remembers where I was in my various ebooks (aka downloaded fic).

Today has been pretty solid, all things considered. I've been chugging away at my last paper and it's getting pretty close to being done (plus I've still got over 24 hours before it's due - I'm golden). And I went to the dentist.

Dentists are balls you might say (and I would agree with you). But get this: I don't have any cavities!!! So yes, Dentists suck. But after all the dental death I had to go through last year, not having a cavity is kinda amazing! My are generally filled with suckiness, but apparently not today! So that's worthy of celebration!

And to make things more better: I got my Old Navy order in the mail today - a week early! New clothes are exciting!

Also: the Ice Birds' last game is tonight! And I've roped a whole bunch of people into coming and cheering us on, so that should be lots of fun!

Finally, I've also just been invited to a Wedding! This is the first time I've been invited to a wedding for someone who is not directly related to me. So I'm going! Even though it'll be a bit of a trek to get there. Its especially cool that I got invited because I know that they didn't have much space, so only a few of us got invites at all from our group of friends. But enough people I know are going that it should be fun even if we barely get to say hi to the happy couple. I'm really looking forward to it!

I have a massive headache. I think I'm going to take more painkillers, even though it's not been the requisite 4 hours yet.

I'm worried that it's because my hockey helmet is super out of date. It was manufactured in 1999 and helmets now come with a five-year expiry date. :S

Last night I had a hockey practice and I got hit in the head with the puck about 4 or 5 times, which is well above normal. I didn't feel bad at the time at all, or even last night. But in class this morning I was starting to get a headache and then our prof's slide projectors make the most high-pitched squealing noises and my head started really pounding.

I've been lusting after new gear all year. But I think I should maybe go and get a new helmet sooner rather than later, just in case my headache is puck-related. If I can find one that's close to $150 I'll just buy it. But if they've only got the $300 ones I may have to wait for my birthday.

I love being a goaltender, but I really wish that the equipment wasn't so expensive. Le sigh.

I've got a dentist appointment today. It's just a cleaning, but knowing my luck I'll find out that I've got about ten billion more cavities that need to be filled. Think good thoughts for me please.

Also the bruise on my forehead is still there, and there is only so much that can be covered up by make-up. And there's no wearing of hats in the dentist chair.

Also Also I've got a meeting with library people this afternoon where I have to be all professional and represent the department. I'm the Reading Room TA this year and I'm talking to them about getting an electronic database of the books we have. I still think that this should be done by a prof rather than by me, but I'm still doing it. Here's hoping they take me seriously. I'm pretty sure that I know what we want at least.

And I'm super tired for no good reason. Well, I have one idea... and I'm hoping it just goes away. May talk about it later.

Lots of other things are happening as well which I want to write about - but I should go now to avoid being late for the dentist (*wibble*).

At least tonight is the season premier of Fringe!

Dear Mountains,

You looked lovely today. Keep up the good work.

In other news I've finished marking a whole slue of second year religious studies papers on the Bible. I remain not very impressed - also still confused about why I got assigned a course I really know very little about (surprisingly this doesn't stop me from recognizing a good or bad argument). (Well, not entirely confused - someone had to get it because all the religious studies grad students already had TAships, but why did that someone have to be me?)

I think I'm going to go and see The Eagle soon. It promises to be stupid and wrong and racist and AWESOME. Plus it's totally about Roman Britain and therefore completely relevant to my major research paper (but let's not talk about how my work on that is going...).

I still need to do a full Dental Death post, but in the mean time I've got my crown almost done. I've got the temporary crown in and I'm heading in next Thursday to get the permanent one glued on. I'm going to have a gold tooth! I'm super excited about it (yes, it's in the back). They gave me the option of the porcelain and metal version that would look like a regular tooth, but I decided to go with gold because
a) Gold is awesome and it will go well with my anchor tattoo.
b) I've had enough problems with dental work and I wanted to go with the simplest, least-likely to break version.
c) $50 cheaper doesn't hurt.
and d) I've had so much dental work done in the past two months that it would feel wrong if it didn't leave some kind of a mark (yes, I would feel differently if it was a front tooth).
It was actually pretty funny, since both my dentist and my hygienist were being careful not to influence me and let me come to my own decision (while giving me all the information about the options) but as soon as I said I wanted gold they both told me what a great idea that was. "I wish all my patients got gold crowns" said Dr. Tooth man. I find that kinda amusing.

Anyway, gold tooth next Thursday. Should be exciting!
