aderam: (Latin Shoes - aderam)
(it's like Batman Begins only without Christian Bale. Believe me no one is more disappointed about that than I am.)

At the request of [livejournal.com profile] jetfx this is the story of where Aderam came from. Coincidentally it's also the story of how Aderam got addicted to the internet (the first time).

Anyway I knew this girl, R, from doing pottery lessons (yes in Real Life *gasp*). And then I started talking to her at the Model UN at school when she was in grade nine and I in grade eight (we were so young). Anyway, turns out that we're both complete nerds (and wouldn't want it any other way) and we start hanging out and doing roleplay-type things with just the two of us. Then R does this program for high school kids at the local university and finds some other equally nerdy people to talk and hang out with. After returning from said program she tells me all about these people and how cool they are and then some cool rp stuff that they're doing online. A, one of said cool people, features the ost predominantly and eventually I heard enough awesomeness that I wanted to write to her. So R gave me her e-mail and I sent her a letter, in character and signed it The Dreaded Dragon. This was the moment that Aderam was born really, although at the time he didn't have a name yet. Anyway, A turned out to be pretty cool and she was in charge of a rp community over at (don't laugh... too much) neopets. A community that R had already joined. So I wanted to join in the fun (even though this was way back when the boards at neopets didn't automatically update when someone posted another comment and as such roleplaying involved a lot of hitting the refresh button) and I needed a username (let alone an actual name) because, to be honest, I knew even then that The Dreaded Dragon was not a very original name. So basically Aderam came to me while I was sitting at the computer with R signing up for an account at neopets. There was no long, drawn out process of finding the perfect name or anything like that. So then I became The Dreaded Dragon Aderam and we roleplayed quite a bit with a lot of crazy people and even played our own enemies for a while there.

Aderam is a large dragon, he's dark green and dark purple, and looks really impressive until he prooves just how clumsy he actualy is. He's a dear really. And he's me. Or at least a weird aspect of me that's stuck around for a good long while. So I kept the name even after all the teenaged angst and craziness ended most of the friendships (though not R and me). And the Dragonish parts of me don't come up as often as they used to but he's still in there.

Thn one day I was hanging around with my good friend D and we were fiddling a such-like and she said that Aderam sounded like a latin verb in the first person pluperfect (D is also a total language nerd like me!), and it turns out that it is. So before I started doing latin and became addicted to dead languages I gave myself a name which in latin means "I had undertaken". Something that I think is really cool.

Also the overheard sentence of the day is from walking down King St. W by Bay St. in Toronto (it was a very quick trip involving finances and being in a car for 6 hours of less than twelve).

Says Man in Suit #256 to Man in Suit #257 (there were a lot of men in suits) "... then the Palestinians would get two million dollars..."

I wonder what kind of Suits these to were. *thinks perhaps she's been watching too much X-files over her parents' shoulders.*
