So I just finished reading (at work so it took me the better part of an hour to finish the last few pages. Grrr...) Making History by Stephen Fry, which leads me to believe that that man is far more talented than he should be. It's hilarious, but also serious and lovely since they are talking about going back in time to make it so that Hitler was never born. I'd say it was "gripping" if that wasn't so very chiche. Anyway if you ever get the chance (or the opportunity to manufacture the chance) then you really should read this book!!! I'm very tempted to buy it and look up the other things he's written. I'm still in that just-finished-a-good-book afterglow where half of you is completely satisfied and the other half is itching to hear more about the characters. That may have something to do with my character fetish.
Anyway...
In Highlander News I've just finished up the fifth season and am in lust with the Horsemen Episodes. Methos is SOOOO wonderfully evil-and-yet-still-good and I love the other guys. They really made it work, because even though they were all evil-like they were also guys that it seemed like it would be fun to be around, you could really see Methos hanging out with them for a lon time and enjoying it even with the death and stuff. Also loved Methos' line about growing out of the teenage rebelion before Kronos did, and being all mornful after taking Silas' head because "I liked Silas!". It was very right and when Highlander gets it right it's right, on the other hand when Highlander gets it wrong (cough Ritchie cough) it's wrong. (Can you say wholy character inconsistances Batman? er... Duncan?)
In more general terms I'd forgotten how much Highlander really is The Duncan MacLeod Show. I may have already said this, but even the regulars who're in the opening sequence are only there half the time tops. I'd forgotten that Methos wasn't around all the time. Which is another one of those interesting canon vs fanon things, because if you listen to the fanfic it seems far more like the Duncan and Methos show. Not that I object. Duncan is all well and good, he is a boy scout as Amanda always says, and quite nice to look at when he's doing the shirtless sparing or Ti Chi thing, but he's not that interesting really. On the other hand I have much love for Methos (or didn't you guess?) and Amanda, who is a thief, as well as Joe, who is a watcher and mortal and lovely. Joe is the only morally unambiguous one of those three. I think that says something about me. Oh well.
And one last fangirlish moment: I also adored the scene in Forgive Us Our Tresspasses where Amanda comes over to Methos' in the middle of the night to get him to help her save Mac from his own sense of guilt. Methos being tired and grumpy and snuggling back into bed while she talks to him is just perfect.
And I'm currently downloading the next two episodes of SG-1 and SGA. Am excited like the little fangirl that I am. (!!!) I also got around to watching the Atlantis episode from last week and it wasn't anything to be afeard of in the end. I really enjoyed it, inculding the funness of having the guy who's translation Daniel corrected in the movie being the lead Guest. Everyone's looks of adoration were cute and I loved McKay and Sheppard talking about who played cat woman in the tv Batman.
