And it's entirely homework's fault.

I have to read some Plato for my Greek Tragedies class and it reminded me about how much I hate the man and for some reason I ended up with this stuck in my head and screaming to get out. It's short and a crossover between Stargate and Highlander, but the important thing is really the diss that I'm giving Plato (because I'm imitating an imitation!!! Take that you nunce!). Also no beta and barely any editing so it's probably crap, but whatever. General spoilers for Stargate Season 8 Moebius and none for Highlander.

When Daniel was in Grad School he shared an apartment with another of the students in his department. At the time he hadn’t thought that his roommate’s proficiency with classical languages was particularly odd, after all Daniel himself was almost as good with them and the two of them would often practice their oral Latin and Greek together when they were bored.

When Daniel had to read The Republic for what seemed like the thousandth time he’d had to restrain himself from throwing the book across the room, but that didn’t make him feel better or stop his Prof from praising Plato’s logic and brilliance during all three hours of his class the next day.

“Sometimes I want to go back in time,” Daniel said through gritted teeth as he walked the length of their small living room to retrieve the battered paperback that he had just thrown solidly into the wall. He stopped and thought for a moment as he stooped to pick up the book and made sure that none of the pages had come loose this time. “Actually, I often want to go back in time,” he amended but his face hardened as he looked down at The Republic and scowled. “But this time all I want to do is punch Plato in the face.”

Adam had snorted at this, hiding his face behind his copy of The Iliad in the original Greek that he was currently reading while sprawled comfortably on their couch. “Trust me,” he said trying to keep a straight face as he lowered the book and failing. “It doesn’t actually help that much. Kicking him in the balls however…” Adam shrugged again and smiled as if at a fond memory.

At the time Daniel had laughed, felt much better about this annoying course that it was too late to drop, and was grateful for intelligent and funny roommates. He hadn’t thought it odd that Adam had referred to Plato as if he had met the man, let alone kicked him in the balls. He hadn’t really thought about it at all.

When Daniel walked into one of the rebel tents in ancient Egypt to start planning the expulsion of the Goa’uld in 3000 BC and come face to face with the same man with whom he had lived for three years of Grad School, Daniel began to think that maybe he should have realized that Adam Pierson was a little odd.

A/N: Yeah. It was Methos punching Plato in the face that I got in my head to start with. It needed to be shared with the world. I hope you liked it.

Pamela Dean and T.S. Eliot are not at all in the same brain space

Well, not in terms of reading enjoyment, no they aren't for me either. But in terms of being full of inside references to all of western literature that FYP probably generates the footnotes for, yes.
