1. It's been a while since I've posted. Sorry. I'm stuck in that strange place where there's not much to do but simultaneously loads of shit to do.

2. The Stanley Cup Finals continue and the Canucks continue to play in them. We're up 3-2 on the series - which is a very good thing. On the other hand we've played like crap when we're in Boston. The long and short of it though is that we're up 3-2 and we've only got to win once more in order to get the cup. Boston needs to win twice. So we've still got the advantage. Even if we play like crap in Boston on Monday we've still got another game at home which we are likely to win. (Dear Canucks, please don't play like crap in Boston. While my head will understand I'm not sure that my heart could take it. I'm too young to have a heart attack!)

3. Speaking of the Finals, we've been going out and drinking for just about every game. It's kinda tiring. But necessary. (And fun). How often does your team get into the finals when you're living in that city? (If you're me - this is unlikely to happen again.)

4. Overheard at the bar last night: It should just be one game instead of seven to decide the cup. The Superbowl is one game. And so is the World Series.
- Just a hint: if it's called a series it's unlikely to be only one game. And for the record, football is the odd sport out in North America - Basketball, Baseball and Hockey are all decided by seven game series'.

5. I'm making Salsa Chicken Thighs for dinner tonight. It's a recipe that my Dad (I think) got out of a Looney Spoons cookbook ages ago. I don't have the receipe, but I've made it before so I decided to give it a try.
Things I put in there (for my own record)
- onions
- garlic
- medium chunky salsa
- soy sauce
- dijon mustard
- honey
- powdered ginger
I hope it turns out. Smells pretty good.

6. My sister-in-law is having her birthday party tonight. I was invited, but sadly being on the other side of the continent does get in the way of attending parties. I'm hoping for a drunken phone call from my brother fairly soon. He's pretty good at that.

7. We went to see X-men: First Class and I really liked it. It definitely had some major flaws, but there was some awesome character development and just characters in general.

8. I am in love with James McAvoy. I've known this since I saw him in Children of Dune, but it's always nice to have it reaffirmed. I YouTubed a bunch of interviews with him - and he's even more awesome in person. I think my favourite is this interview with Craig Ferguson because it is hilarious! "Scottish Vacuum of Charm" Indeed!

9. I have therefore downloaded a bunch of his movies. Today I watched "Starter for 10" which was hilarious in a kinda awkward first year university kind of way. Also his mother was played by Catherine Tate and Benedict Cumberbatch was the dink who was captain of the University Challenge team. I laughed really loudly at times. Very enjoyable. Next up, either Atonement or the Last King of Scotland (in which I hope he actually uses his own accent, because it is lovely).

9. I think I might go and get bookshelves from Canadian Tire tomorrow. I know, my life is super exciting.

I'm totally procrastinating from life right now.

Everything is changing so avoidance is my middle name!

But things are changing for the good really. I got my first choice of Masters program, I'm moving to Beautiful British Columbia (where I can stalk my favourite TV actors), and I'm going to Italy again to do archaeology - although this time it's a different dig.

I've got questions I need answered, housing applications to get done, crap that needs to be organized.

But right now... Right now I'm procrastinating life. Life - I've put you on hold. I need some me time. And I'll deal with you later.

In the mean time I'll gladly accept any fun things on the internet you might like to point me towards. :)

Beginning of term is crazy. made easier when one only has four instead of the usual five classes. And yet made even harder when one must do all the crazy registration stuff twice over because one is taking classes at two different universities - and by this I mean I am taking one class at SMU and therefore have to do all the normal registration stuff over there as well as at King's plus I have to figure out all the usual 1st year stuff about student numbers and school e-mail addresses and stupid BLS (which isn't even working for them yet because they've just started using it - what a terrible system).

In other news I was so excited to have free time this term and of course forgot that what that really meant was that I will actually have enough time to do all my school work. Which is good, but thoughts of being productive and useful in ways that have nothing to do with school are right out.

Also I'm going to go and donate blood on Friday with S. He does it all the time (and Canadian Blood Services are always calling him), but this will be my first time. I'd planned on donating as soon as I was 17, but then I got my tonsils out, followed six months later (the amount of time you're supposed to wait) by getting my wisdom teeth out (it was a fun year for oral surgery) and six months after that by being in a new city and crazy university things happening, so I never got around to it. (ie I am a bad person that does not want to help out my fellow man.)

In conclusion I am greatly amused by males in my Classics courses looking awkward and apologetic when they are talking about the misogyny of the Ancients.

Soupytwist!

I actually knew what to write... over the past few days I kept thinking of things that I wanted to post in the good ol' LJ, but of course now I can't think of any of them really.

Sufficeth to say that I've gone and got myself a busy life. Things and people are being moved back and forth. Bits are being renovated of our house (which is crazy). Work has started and things seem to be going well (we just had training today, which always makes things seem more intense because we have to go over all of the emergency situations). And the second round of the play-offs is going strong. Vancouver and Ottawa are both in the second round and they keep playing on alternate nights so I end up watching a lot of hockey to keep up with what's going on.

Speaking of hockey I've had this craving to be reading stories about hockey lately (either fanfic or regular fic) but the only ones that I can think of are the Screech Owls. And I love them, but at the same time I kinda want something a little more grown up (to read along-side them, of course, I'll still be reading the SOs). Do any of you folks have any suggestions for good books or fic about hockey? (P.S. RPF freaks me the hell out.) There's gotta be a bunch of books about hockey teams and the like. I mean the dynamic of a sports team (and hockey teams in particular) are pretty cool. Or is it strictly a "young adult" and "kids" book phenomena? (Even if that's the case I still want to hear about other good hockey books. I don't subscribe to that agist philosophy.)

And speaking of books I got myself half a bag-full of used books from the Mall for a dollar on Sunday. I got a book of poetry by Yeats (it was still National Poetry Month on Sunday, points to [livejournal.com profile] kuwdora for that bit of information), a book on Pompeii and a book on the Ancient Near East that both may, or may not, be any good, and two books about Arctic expeditions. The books on the Arctic expeditions look fascinating to me. One of them is a novel with real historical figures as the background characters, which may, or may not, be interesting, but the other is a more academic book describing the Greenly Expedition up to Lady Franklin Bay (near Alert, on Ellesmere Island) and how it failed completely. It looks really cool. The guy who writes it has a good style and the whole thing makes me want to read up on the British expeditions, especially Franklin's, beacause disappearance! and Stan Rodgers!, and Frobishur's, because that's the name of my teddy bear (thanks Mum!).

Tomorrow I have the day off work and I'm going to go grocery shopping (my life is non-stop excitement!) and go and buy some yarn for some various mysterious projets I'm thinking of (Okay, yeah, maybe it is excitement!).

And now, off to watch the Canucks game!

And I'm not entirely certain why.

Okay so there are a few of the obvious things like I played hockey last night (and it was good), but I think I might actually be getting a cold. Even though I don't really have that many cold symptoms. It just feels like I do anyway.

Also I'm having my period, which might be it entirely.

I've made a pact with myself to do as little as possible for the next little while so that I end up getting school work done and feeling better. Looking back over the last couple of weeks I've ben doing a lot and it's probably just time to take a break.

Tonight I'm doing my Latin homework, making tacos and doing laundry, also maybe I'll read a bunch more of the Iliad since I'm supposed to be finished it already. Or maybe I'll just read some mindless fanfic instead.

Blink.
