Somehow I managed to sleep in until about noon today despite waking up enough to turn off my alarm at 08:30. (No, I don't have to get up at any specific time these days - unemployed - but I've been trying to have reasonable awake hours instead of sleeping all day and not being able to get to sleep at night.)

Then I made myself a to do list and I actually managed to do most of the things on it!

Including calling a recruiting agency that places people in office jobs! Admittedly I had to leave a message on the person's voice mail, which is hopefully not as awkward as I fear. But I actually called them! I hate phones! This is an accomplishment!

I also tried to edit my CV to make all of the officey-type things I've done more obvious. None of my jobs have been office jobs, strictly speaking. But I've done a lot of data entry and forms and shit as well as filing, emailing people, and I'm not sure what taking notes in class is if not dictation. Also when I worked front desk I was responsible for all incoming calls to the university after the receptionist went home (there is no need to mention that the university was only 1000 students - or that I didn't get more than one or two desk shifts a week).

I also went grocery shopping (it never ends). And picked up some bus tickets. Did the dishes and I just started my laundry.

Tonight I'm going to see Seven Psychopaths with A and K and that should be fun. I'm going to try to not get any over-priced concessions.

My puck bruise is looking pretty damn impressive. It's sort of yellowy-greeny red in the middle and purpley-dark blue around the edges and I'm pretty sure it's actually bigger than a puck at this point which is pretty cool. Doesn't hurt as much as it used to either - which is good.

Now I think I'm going to read some fic to make me feel better.

And good news! I thought my kindle had died yesterday because it wouldn't respond to anything, including trying to restart it. But it turned out that it just needed to sit and think about what it'd done for a while. Because I restarted it today and it seems fine now. It even remembers where I was in my various ebooks (aka downloaded fic).

Spam?

Is anyone else getting loads of Spam on their Dreamwidths?

It's gotten kind of ridiculous I think I've gotten nearly 50 Spam comments (maybe more actually) on one of my entries in the last three or four days alone. I've deleted them all as Spam so that the Spam-folk can deal with it, but it hasn't stopped and it's irritated

It's all on the same entry, so I wonder if deleting that entry would stop it? I mean I'd rather not, but it's not an entry I'm particularly attached to, and it's on LJ as well. And frankly I'm tired of reading (at a glance) what appears to be porn reviews while I'm clicking through to delete them all.

For my own reference: This is how you move your iTunes library to another computer.

This link explains it: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to-a-new-hard-drive/

In short:
Step 1 - Change the directory where iTunes keeps all your media. Edit > Preferences > Advanced
Step 2 - Consolidate Files to that new folder. File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate Files
Step 3 - Wait.
Step 4 - Copy all the library files and various other bits that are not the media itself but hang out in the same file area, to where you sent the files.
Step 5 - hold shift while starting up iTunes (on the new computer) so that you can choose the library to use - pick the file you just brought with you. It will probably be called "iTunes Library.itl
VoilĂ

In other news I was having some issues with my laptop (I thought I had a virus, and maybe I did, but my anti-virus software said otherwise after scanning in safe mode), and decided to back up everything in preparation for a system restore. This is why it came up again. Most of my stuff is all backed-up in a good way, but I had a few things lying around that weren't (as one does).

Then it wasn't letting windows open and suggested a partial restore back to a time when everything still worked. So I did that. Naturally, it's working now (phew), but I'd already moved the iTunes library with plans to keep the settings that way. Now for some reason it won't let me consolidate my library back to it's former location. I deleted all the previous files! Le Sigh. I'll try to put it in a new file over there. I'm going to have a super useless set of folders on that disc now.

Part of me kind of wants to do a full restore anyway. I've been thinking about reinstalling a few of my programs anyway because they've been a little bitchy of late. Maybe that would be a good thing.

Le Sigh.

I think one of the worst parts is that I was purposefully not mentioning this freely around the reading room because I knew that one of the guys would just act as if using a PC instead of a Mac was asking to get a virus. The worst part is that he uses a PC now too, because it's cheaper. I'm sick and tired of the holier-than-thou Mac users. Partially because their cultic ways give a bad name to all the perfectly normal people who use Mac and aren't total douches about it. Using a PC does not mean I'm an idiot. I've looked at Macs and I like PCs and (gods forbid) Windows better. Also, I know I'm going against everyone else, but I think the Macs are ugly. White is not a good colour for something that you're carrying around everywhere.

RIP Custard

Custard was my iPod touch. He was named after Custard the Cowardly Dragon from the awesome poem by Ogden Nash.

Melinda was as brave as a barrel full of bears,
Ink and Blink chased lions down the stairs,
Mustard was as brave as a tiger in a rage,
But Custard kept crying for a nice safe cage.

(Recited from memory - that was totally an important part of my childhood. Ink is a little black kitten, Blink is a little grey mouse, and Mustard is a little yellow dog - Custard is a realio, trulio dragon.)

I got Custard online so I got them to inscribe "Don't fret, a cowardly Dragon makes the nicest pet." on the back, which is another quotation from the poem. Custard succumbed to hardware malfunction several weeks ago. He stopped giving sound in the left ear, but I put off sending him in because a) Custard has been good to me, and b) I didn't want to go without iPod while I was travelling across the country. One ear of music is better than no ears.

But there's an apple store in Edmonton, so while I'm here I decided to go in and have Custard checked out. Alas there was no quick fix, so instead I got a replacement iPod. Exactly the same, but not Custard. RIP. *sad face*

So now I need to think of a name for the new guy (this is the stand in name I've given it for the meantime). The previous iPod was named Sparky. I don't really have a theme for naming iPods, and I don't think I want one. (The new cell is called Hugh after the Borg, because he is an individual, but still part of the collective.)

Any thoughts you might have for iPod names would be greatly appreciated. So far I'm thinking Henrik (after many awesome hockey players - mostly Swedes), or Heinrik (after Heinrick Schliemann, the "archaeologist" who "discovered" "Troy", and named his kid Agamemnon because he was just that awesome crazy), or Sally (for no particular reason), or Torin (because Space Marines kick ass), or Daniel (for so many different awesome people from different things that interest me that I can't won't name them all), or... (you get the idea).

I'll let you know what I decide
